CLOSE HOUSE OFFICIAL VENUE OF THE BRITISH MASTERS 2017
Prestigious WLG member club in Newcastle upon Tyne proud to serve as host
The British Masters, one of the leading professional tournaments on the European Tour, will be hosted by World of Leading Golf member club Close House. Master of Ceremonies will be tour professional Lee Westwood, who won the tournament in 2007 at the Belfry and is affiliated to Close House since 2011.
Former World Number 1 golfer Lee Westwood had been appointed to help the Close House team improve the features of the two Scott Macpherson designed golf courses on the grounds of the estate adding new tees and bunkers. He then reopened the Colt Course on 10th May 2011 and the Filly course in 2013. Next year, he will be taking over as host of the British Masters and feels „sure Close House will be a fantastic test of golf for the players.“
Upon the news of becoming host to the biggest golfing event ever to be carried out in England’s North East, Graham Wylie, owner of Close House, commented: „To have the British Masters next year will be fantastic not just for Close House, but for the whole region. .. Lee Westwood is a great ambassador for the sport ... and we will put on a great event for him.“
The event will take place from 28 September to 1 October 2017 on the Colt course. A course carefully reconstructed to stay in tune with the history of the property, but nevertheless producing an exciting range of challenges for every level of golfer.
