RENOVATIONS AT WLG MEMBER CLUB LAS BRISAS

Kyle Phillips’ plans ready to be implemented for the back 9 holes

Founded in 1968, the private Real Club de Golf de Las Brisas has been a prime location for golf for decades already, the course having been designed by famous Robert Trent Jones Senior. The renovation plan supervised by Kyle Phillips now promises an even greater golf experience ...

Renewing a course designed by legendary Robert Trent Senior demands respect – even from someone like Kyle Phillips, who is known for leaving a noticeable personal trace on everyone of his works.  The designer planned the Las Brisas back 9-makeover as a personal tribute to Trent Jones while taking into account the fact that in 1968 there were no buildings anywhere in sight. Today there are a lot of homes built close by so that the owners’ security and desires had to be considered.

To achieve a more balanced play at Las Brisas par 72, it will be less rigorous in the out of bounds of the holes 13, 14 and 15. The adjacent housing will be more hidden to go back to the impression of the original design and the views in Trent Jones’ time. While repositioning some of the holes, stretching the fairways, adding tees, moving bunkers, adding greenery and reshaping lakes, the drainage of the course will be improved. Especially by reconstructing the lake on the 12th hole, a reliable irrigation and water supply will be ensured – everything being done in compliance with environmental standards, of course.

"I am very pleased to hear that the partners are enjoying the first nine holes that have ended in Las Brisas”, states Phillips, “and now as we turn our attention to the back nine, we have to take into account, that they are on a much smaller and restricted land … therefore, we thought of several options to ensure these nine holes have the same strength and character that front nine.”

“We have the opportunity to make some adjustments and improve them, and I hope the trust of partners in what we have done with the first nine holes allow us to go ahead and do what we like to do with the other nine", the designer concludes. As it is, Kyle Phillips’ approach to the back 9 is beyond doubt and the plans fixed for the course of Las Brisas to reach a new level of quality and enjoyment!
